Stories That Matter, Told Your Way
Meets Fridays, 2:40-6 pm (option for pickup at 4 pm after afterschool at Arts & Letters)
What story are you burning to tell? How can words and images work together to create something powerful and beautiful? In this collaborative workshop, we'll dive into the radical art of zine-making—studying inspiring publications from around the globe, experimenting with different storytelling techniques, and creating both individual and collective works that reflect our authentic voices.
Whether you're drawn to comic storytelling, social justice themes, personal memoir, or abstract visual poetry, this is your space to explore, create, and connect. Participants of all ages will learn layout design, illustration techniques, and the joy of DIY publishing while building community around shared stories.
Our semester culminates in a community zine showcase where we'll celebrate our creations and share our stories with friends and family!
We will offer snacks and a light vegetarian dinner for everyone who attends.
Perfect for: Anyone with something to say and the desire to say it creatively
Taught by: Laena McCarthy, Makers United Co-Founder, Educator & Entrepreneur, Former Librarian at Pratt Institute & Guest Zine Collectors & Makers
Schedule: Every Friday, September 19-December 19, 2025 3-6 pm; we will offer pickup from Arts & Letters 305 United School and IES at 2:40 and 4 pm
